May is National Nurses Month — a time to honor nurses who devote their lives to taking care of others. Starting on May 6, we also celebrate National Nurses Week, which culminates on Florence Nightingale’s birthday on May 12.

Here at CUNY SPS, known for our acclaimed online nursing programs, this monthly observance offers a chance for me to pay tribute by sharing a few of our nursing students, alum, and faculty stories.

National Nurses Week Spotlight at CUNY SPS

Earlier this week, we published the first part of a two-part series spotlighting some of our nursing students and alum. Read more about them here!

(And stay tuned for Part 2, which will be published on the CUNY SPS website on May 12.)

CUNY SPS Nursing Convocation and Pinning Ceremony 2023

During National Nurses Week, we also honored our 2023 nursing graduates in a beautiful and moving in-person Nursing Convocation and Pinning Ceremony, held at Baruch College on May 9.

The nursing pinning ceremony is a time-honored tradition that can be dated back to the 12th century. It is a celebration of the graduate’s completion of nursing school, and commemorates their service as members of the profession of nursing.

Past Nurses Month and Week Celebrations

In addition to our 2023 spotlight, I also invite you to read some of our prior nursing student features.

In 2022, we celebrated some of our students and alum in the CUNY SPS nursing education programs.

And in 2021, several nursing students sat down before the camera to share what being a nurse means to them.

We also paid a special tribute to our brave and hardworking nursing students and faculty during the first days of COVID in 2020, when they were risking their lives on the frontlines of the pandemic.

Finally, please let me join the chorus of voices in this video below to give a heartfelt thanks to all our nurses — students, faculty, alum — who truly make a difference. Thank you!!
